O—Hare Rotunda AHU Replacements
Milhouse provided electrical engineering, architectural design, and cost-estimating services for designing and constructing the new HVAC systems at the Rotunda Building of O—Hare International Airport. This project scope included replacing and modifying multiple air-handling systems, the heating and cooling coil at the H&R plant’s mezzanine level, and replacing one AHU in the basement.
In addition, Milhouse made the following improvements:
— Installed new, permanent ductwork cross-connections between existing HVAC systems to improve reliability and redundancy and enable the shutdown of existing AHUs without disrupting airport operations.
— Used wireless controls to reduce construction costs.
— Existing control valves were replaced with pressure-independent control valves to monitor and control CO2 levels.
— Designed heat-recovery systems to improve indoor air quality and reduce total energy consumption and maintenance/operation costs.
Designs included:
— New Motor-Control Center
— 480V—120V Transformer
— Refl ective ceiling plan
— LED lighting design
— Architectural updates, based on the installation of new mechanical equipment wall openings
Milhouse also provided design services to meet phasing requirements and ensure airport operations were maintained at acceptable levels.
